May 10,.1990 bocketNo.50-155-Mr. Kenneth W. Berry Director, Nuclear Licensing Consumers Power Company 1945 West Parnall Road Jackson, Michigen 49201

Dear Mr. Berry:

SUBJECT:

NRC BULLETIN 90-02 (TAC NO. 76319)

NRC Bulletin 90-02, " Loss of Thermal Margin Caused by Channel Box Bow," issued March 20, 1990, requested li_censeen to d>termine if any channel boxes are being

-i reused after their initial bundle ' lifetime and, if so, to ensure that the, i

effects of channel box bow on the critical power ratio (CPR) are properly taken

'c into account.

1 By letter dated-April 20, 1990, Consumers' Power Compary provided a response to the bulletin.

In that letter, you stated that the magnitude of bowing for the-Big Rock Point channels is less than is expected for typical BWRs.

The remainder i

of the current cycle is not Minimum Critical Power Ratio (MC N ) limiting and there is adequate margin to preclude dryout_ from channel box oow.

You conclude'd i

r

-that compliance with technical specification CPR limits is assured.

The bulletin also requested that the effects of channel box bow be accounted for in analysis supporting the next refueling outage.

In your response, you stated-that analyses evaluating the effect of channel box bow on MCPR'are being

. performed and the results and any actions necessary to preclude the effects of channel box bow will be submitted prior to the start of the next cycle.

Based on your response, we consider this item closed.
