RESPONSE TO GENERIC LETTER 89-10 " SAFETY-RELATED MOTOR-OPERATED VALVE (MOV) TESTING AND SURVEILLANCE" (TAC NOS. 75704 AND 75705)
L Generic Letter GL 89-10, " Safety-Related Motor-Operated Valve Testing and l
Surveillance" requested each licensee / applicant to extend the scope of the program outlined in Bulletin 85-03 and Supplement I to include all safety related MOVs as well as all position changeable MOVs as defined in the GL.
The licensee's program should include testing, inspection and maintenance programs of MOVs-so as to provide the necessary assurance that the MOVs will function when subjected to the design basis conditions during both normal operation and abnormal transients within the design limits of the plant.
By letter dated December 28, 1989, you submitted a response to GL 89-10 for j
the MOVs that are installed at the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant i
Unit Nos. 1 and 2.
Your submittal committed to implementing the recommendations-of.GL 89-10 within our proposed schedule.
The recommendations of GL 89-10 deals primarily with changes.to the diagnostic equipments which you have committed to address.
Based on the review of your submittal, we find that you aave provided an acceptable response to GL 89-10.
As part of any future reporting requirements you shall submit in writing any future changes to the scheduled commitments or alternative actions.
These revised schedules or alternative actiont'may be implemented without NRC approval.
You should however retain technical justification for the revised schedules and alternative actions as l
part of your site records.
This fulfills'your requirements in addressing'the l
concerns of this issue which we consider complete and TAC Nos. 75704 and 75705 are closed.
Your efforts in this issue may be subject to future' inspection-'at our discretion.
