This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Messrs.
D. J. Sreniawsk and W. J. Slawinski of this office on March 11, 1982, of activities authorized by NRC Byproduct Material License No. 34-06188-07 and to the discussion of our findings with you and Wyman Rutledge, Ph.D.
at the conclusion of the inspection.
The inspection was an examination of activities conducted under your license as they relate to radiation safety and to compliance with the Commission's rules and regulations and with the conditions of your license. The inspec-tion consisted of a selective examination of procedures and representative records, observations, independent measurements, and interviews with personnel.
During this inspection, certain of your activities appeared to be in non-compliance with NRC requirements, as specified in the enclosed Appendix.
Ilowever, no response to this violation is required since the strontium-90 source is in locked storage and will remain so until a license is granted to permit such possession.
It is our understanding that Mead Corporation will not receive gauges con-taining licensed material unless specifically authorized by your NRC license or unless such gauges are generally licensed and distributed by authorized individuals.
If our understanding of the above is not correct, please contact this office.
