Mr. M. W. Mallory Project Manager Licensing Branch #4 Division of Licensing, NRR U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555 Attention: Mr. II. Lefevre

Subject:

Puget Sound Power & Light Company Skagit/Ilanford Nuclear Project, Units 1 & 2 Docket Nos. 50-522 and 50-523 Request for Additional Information Regarding Geologic / Geophysical Data

Dear Mr. Mallory:

This letter is in response to Mr. Lefevre's informal request for additional information regarding geologic and geophysical data collected for the Skagit/Ilanford Nuclear Project on the southeast anticline. Specifically, Mr. Lefevre requested, during a telephune conversation with Mr. James Kearnes of NESCO on March 12, 1982, that we provide a letter stating what data we have available on the southeast anticline to the northwest of Line 3 and whether we consider this data to be of any value in assessing the termination of either the southeast anticline or the southeast anticline fault to the northwest.

Geophysical data northwest of Line 3 across the projected trend of the southeast anticline consists of gravity and land magnetic data (see S/IINP PSAR, Figure 2K-6).

The gravity data have been contoured to delineate the northwesterly trend of the soutt. cast antic 'ne (see S/liNP PSAR, Figure 2K-13). Land magnetic data in this area are adversely affected by cultural features such as the llanford townsite and electrical transmission lines ar.d cannot be reliably interpreted. S/IINP PSAR Figure 2K-3 shows the location of seismic refraction data collected and Figure 2R-4 shows boring locations.

There are no seismic refraction profiles or boring data over the southeast anticline northwest of Line 3.

2DO We consider the gravity data to be of value n assessing the termination of the southeast U .x i

anticline to the northwest in that the Bouguer gravity anomoly map (Fig. 2K-13) is interpreted to be an approximate structured contour map (see S/IINP PSAR Appendix I 2K Section 1.0). The first gravity profile to the northwest of Line 3 which does not indPate the presence of the southeast anticline is Line G. The location of this line is I
