SUMMARY
RESPONSE
Consumers Power Company was requested on March 23, 1982 to provide additional information supplementing our rebruary 12, 1982 letter on the operation and testing of containment isolation valves at the Big Rock Point Plant.
Specifi-cally, additional information was requested on the number of operations during a year for reasons other than testing. Estimates of the expected number of such operations for each containment isolation valve are provided in the attachment.
It must be emphasized that the numbers shown under the column labeled " Estimate of Operations Other Than Testing," are only our best estimate of the number of operations. Substantiation of these numbers would require a thorough and time consuming search of plant records, and might not even be possible.
In addition, for those penetrations in which a check valves serves as the isolation valve (and also for the valves associated with the locks) it is very difficult to estimate the number of challenges per year, and thus for those valves the asterisk (*) indicates that the number of operations is unknown.
