Dear fir. Beckhan:

Your letter of flarch 2,1982, requested relief from the 1974 edition of the ASME Boiler and Pressum Vessel Code, Section TI, in regard to the requirenents for the visual inspection of Categ6ry B-K-2, Category C-E-2, and Subsection IllD-2400 Class 3 supports at the Itatch Plant Units 1 and 2.

You stated that the Code was anbiguous in regard to the frequency of visual inspections.

As an alternate, you pmpose the use of the 1980 Edition of ASfiE Section TT, with addenda thmugh Winter 1980, for the visual inspections of LTass 1, 2 and 3 supports. As the NRC has previously approved the 1980 edition and addenda thmugh Winter 1930, we have no objection to your use of the later edition of Section IT for ISI of the subject supports.

Our rule,10 CFR 50.55a, in paragrapli q, also requires, when using later code editions, that you also neet. "all related requirements", from that later edition.

Sincerely,

%.w._.a a nmr J0ici1. SmLZ=
