Dear Mr. MacDonald:

Attached is a revised application for an NRC Certificate of Compliance which will authorize shipment of radioactive material in Gamma Industries radiography exposure devices, Models Century S, Century SA, Century Universal S, and Century Universal SA, as Type B shipping containers.

This' application replaces our earlier application dated August 24, 1979, in its entirety.

Most of the information in this application is unchanged from our previous submission.

However, recent letters, telephone conversations, and meetings with your staff have resulted in additional changes which we felt would best be incorporated in a complete rewrite.

In particular:

1.

The lock box attachment has been changed to include more and larger bolts.

2.

A vent hole has been added to more positively prevent internal pressure buildup.

3.

The Quality Assurance chapter has been omitted except by reference to the separately approved O.A.

Program.

4.

Superfluous detail drawings of components have been withdrawn.

For these reasons, we respectfully submit the entire application anew.

Mr. Charles E. MacDonald, Chief Page 2 March 4, 1982 We look forward to an early evaluation and stand ready to discuss any questions you or your staff may have.

When approved, we would very much appreciate your assistance in notifying the Department of Transportation (Mr. Rawl) that these Century Models meet the'IAEA requirements for Type B(U) packages so that an IAEA Certificate of Competent Authority may be issued.

Sincerely yours, K.
