Dear Mr. Haynes:
U e
Subject:
Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station Docket No. 50-219 Status Report - Early Warning Siren System The enclosure updates our February 22, 1982 letter and provides the current status of the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station siren alerting system as of February 28, 1982.
We are pleased to inform you that means have been established whereby the siren system can now be activated by Ocean County Sheriff's Department personnel with recommendation from the OCNGS Emergency Management Officials but only when directed by the Ocean County Emergency Management Director, or his authorized representative. The present system wil l provide prompt notification to the populace within the required 15 minute time frame in all areas covered by the 45 installed sirens.
Local Ocean County Management Of ficials are aware of the specific area which is to be covered by the one siren which remains to be installed. Although we hope to have the one remaining siren installed in the very near f uture, we are presently unable to obtain an easement to install this siren.
The Siren Sys tem status was discussed with Mr. J. Thomas and G. Smith of your staff by telephone with Mr. J. Knubel of my staff on February 26, 1982.
In addition, the delay we are now experiencing on the one remaining siren is of the type that was anticipated and formed the basis of our exemption request dated December 31, 1981 as supplemented by a meeting with your staf f on January 28, 1982 and our letter to Mr. Palladino dated February 1, 1982.
We will keep you informed of any significant further developments.
Very truly yours, f.
I
