Dear Mr. Bauer:

9 C%%f he REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION - CONFIR g

SUBJECT:

M/

ANALYSIS FOR LIMERICK 0;I W \\

The Mechanical Engineering Branch (MEB) has recently instituted a program of performing independent confirmatory piping analyses, on selected piping systems, for plants undergoing OL review. The intent of this program is to verf fy that the subject systems meet the applicable ASME Code stress criteria and vendor allowables.

If code criteria and vendor allowables are not satisfied, the NRC staff will then attempt to resolve differences between stresses and loads computed by the applicant and the staff.

This program will allow the staff to verify, on a sampling basis, that the applicant has met the ASME Code requirements, has met vendor interface requirements, and has adequately incorporated the NRC regulatory guides and review plans into their design.

Findings of the analyses will be included in the Safety Evaluation Report.

The piping system selected for the Limerick confirmatory analysis is the Safety Relief Valve Discharge Piping System. To proceed with the analysis, we reouest that you furnish us with four copies of the following information:

1.

Piping analytical and isometric drawings sufficient to model the systen 2.

Support drawings 3.

The piping system design specification 4

Valve weights and CG's 5.

Appropriate response spectra (seismic and SRV) 6.

Appropriate anchor point movements (thermal, seismic, and SRV, as applicable)

I 7

Any design change notices not yet incorporated into the piping or support drawings (later DCH's should be forwarded as received) omce)

Following the site tour, we would like to meet with the appropriate members of your technical staff to discuss the information contained in the above items (one through nine) and to determine whether additional information will be required. As discussed in recent telephone conversations with Dave Honan of your staff, these activities are tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, March 3,1982. To allow a meeting notice to be sent out well in advance of March 3, we are telecopying this letter to you and would like oral confirmation of this date as soon as possible.
