Dear Mr. Mayer:
JDonoughe WPasedag G
17,1977 and 0ibiuM}e3.1979 we requestu that you By letter dated January evaluate the potential consequences of a postulated fuel handling accident inside containment at the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant Units 1 and 2.
You submitted an evaluation regarding this matter by letters dated March 21, 1977 and January 12, 1979. Based on our evaluation of this postulated accident, we agree with your conclusion that the dose levels at the plant's exclusion area boundary will be less than the reference dose values contained in 10 CFR Part 100. Therefore, your technical specifications, operating procedures and plant equipment will provide an acceptable level of protection to the public in relation to the p potential consequences of the postulated a-cident and our concerns related to this issue are resolved.
A copy of our Safety Evaluation Report is enclosed.
Sincerely, Oricinnt signed by Robert A. Clark Robert A. Clark, Chief Operating Reactors Branch #3 Division of Licensing
