Dear Mr. Norelius:

PRAIRIE ISLAND NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT Docket Nos. 50-282 and 50-306 In response to your letter of January 13, 1982, which transmitted Inspection Reports No. 50-282/81-24 and 50-306/81-26, the following is offered:

Violation A letter from Northern States Power Company (NSP) to the NRC, dated August 1, 1980, which contains the NSP response to the March 28, 1980, letter from H. R. Denton to all licensees states in part, "This program shall ensure each licensed individual is cognizant of plant changes, modifications, and reportable occurrences..."

Contrary to the above, 12 licensed operators and senior operators failed to conduct assigned reviews of plant changes, procedure changes, or ap-plicable reportable occurrances. This occurred for required reviews covering the period from June to September 1981. Two individuals had five or more required reviews during this period for which no review has been documented.

e This is a Severity Level VI violation (Supplement I).

Response

Three actions will be taken:

1.

The number of assigned reviews will 'oe minimized by use of more fre-quent classroom reviews.

2.

Licensed personnel will be reminded of the importance of completing their assigned reviews in a timely manner.

3.

Periodically (monthly), a listing will be prepared of those required reviews which have not been returned. The individuals involved will be contacted.
