REACTOR BUILDIllG PURGIllG yan In SMUD's January 29, 1982 letter from !!r. R. Colubbo, you requested our one-time approval to purge the reactor contairvaent while at power operation for a period of 3G hours beginning January 29, 1982 We have discussed this issue with members of your staff and have completed our review of your submittals. You are hereby authorized to purge containment while at power operation. Purging shall not exceed 3G hours.

In accordance with your January 29, 1982 letter, inlet purge valves SFY 53504 and SFV 53503 shall remain shut at all times. You plan to purge the containment with air drawn through the pressure equalization line valves SFV 53610 and 53603, and exhause through the normal purge outlet valves SFV 53G04 and 53505 Purge outlet valves SFV 53604 and SFV 53605 may be opened provided SFV 53605 is administratively limited to 4he 45' open position.

SFV 53604 has been verified to be blocked at the 60* open position.

Prior to returning the reactor to a hot standby condition, all purge and vent valves shall be returned to the closed position, and your January 18,1980 commitment to limit purging and venting to times when the reactor is at cold shutdown or refueling shall be in effect.
