At a reeting in Bethesda on December 21, 1981 on the subject of hydrogen control at Grand Gulf, we were informed by MPAL that your subnittal of a substantial anount of infomation we had requested on this issue would be delayed until early to nid-January,1982. By your previous letter of August 31, 1981 and our request of flovember 6,1981, we had expected,'but did not receive, sone of this infomation in October,1981 and the remainder by December 15, 1981.

This overdue infomation is required for us to complete our evaluation of the interin position on hydrogen control and includes CLASIX-3 sensitivity studies, local detonation calculations, containment mixing sensitivity studies and test plan, combustion phenomena testing and equipment sursivability analysis.

i As you are aware, the October 20, 1981 ACRS interin report on Grand Gulf identified hydrogen control as one of the two outstanding issues that requires sufficient resolution prior to the Comnittee's review of Grand Gulf for full power operation. Based on a December 15, 1981 subnittal fron MPtt of all requested infomation on the hydrogen control issue, we had scheduled the issuance of a Supplenental Safety Evaluation Report (SSER) on the resolu-tion of this matter by February 26, 1982. This would have remitted the Connittee to schedule the full power operation review of Grand Gulf in March or April. With your currently projected delay in subnitting this infomation, a l

corresponding one month delay in our evaluation schedule and subsequent ACRS l

review should be expected by you.
