20555 BRUNSWICK STEAM ELECTRIC PLANT, UNIT NOS.1 AND 2 DOCKET NOS. 50-325 AND 50-324 LICENSE NOS. DPR-71 AND DPR-62 SOURCE TERM MEASUREMENT PROGRAM

Dear Mr. Vassallo:

I Carolina Power & Light Company has reviewed Mr. T. A.

l Ippolito's December 14, 1981 letter describing a proposed Source Term l

Measuretr.ent Program at the Brunswick plant to be conducted by an NRC contractor, EG&G Idaho, Inc. This was discussed during a December 22, 1981 site visit by NRC and the contractor.

CP&L approves of your request to conduct this program.

It is our understanding that this study will generate research material that will be used by the NRC for future licensing of nuclear facilities and in no way relates to our regulatory status with the NRC.

It is also understood that these activities will have little impact on our normal operation at Brunswick.

Please coordinate your activities with Dr. G. J. Oliver at Brunswick.

If we may be of further service, please contact our staff.

Yours very truly, E

Utl'ey _
