Proposed Control Room Emergency F11trat em for the Yankee Nuclear Power Station, dated August 31, 1981, (FYR-81-127)
Su bj ec t :
Revision to the Proposed Control Room Emergency Air Filtration System for the Yankee Nuclear Power Plant
Dear Sir:
In response to the TMI Action Plan Item III.D.3.4, Control Room Ha bi ta bility, the Reference letter has described the filtration system we intend to install at the Yankee Plant and discussed the assumptions used in the design.
Since submittal of the proposed design, further detailed engineering has required a modification to the original scheme.
The original scheme basically included two redundant trains of filter units and redundant fans and motors.
To avoid installation interferences with existing equipment and to provide more flexibility as to system location, we propose to employ a one train filtration unit (passive component), with redundant fans and motors (active components), as shown in the attached Revision 1 to Figure 1.
Fu r t he rmo re, to simplify ducting installation, this unit will be connected to the existing control room ventilation distribution system.
Isolation will be provided to maintain functional independence.
Since the active components retain their complete redundancy, we believe the proposed change will maintain the same safety margin as the original design, while satisfying the essential installation requirements.
The rest of the design considerations remain the same.
