Technical Specifications for the General Electric Test Reactor (GETR) - License TR-1, Docket 50-70
Dear Mr. Eisenhut:
On October 27, 1977, the GETR was shut down as a result of a Show Cause Order which required seismic and structural analyses. The reactor remains in a cold shutdown condition. The NRC Staff Safety Evaluation Report produced as the result of the Show Cause Order states that technical specifications for the GETR will be developed, submitted to, and approved by the NRC Staff.
In evaluating the current condition of the GETR, GE has concluded that cer-tain tests and calibrations contemplated by existing technical specifications appear to be unnecessary because the GETR is shut down, and hereby requests approval of a technical specification amendment to delete requirements for these particular tests and calibrations while the reactor is shut down.
In further regard to this request for technical specification amendment, GE has previously submitted a supporting analysis of irradiated GETR fuel elements.
The Staff has advised GE that the results of the analysis should be stated more clearly.
In response, the results of that thermal analysis have been stated more clearly, and a revised page 7 of that report is attached.
Please advise if additional information is necessary for your review.
