Subject:

Sequoyah Unit 2 Startup Test Program f

,.w/

Based on the additional information provided in your letter of Januarj S,1982, I

the staff is now satisfied that startup test 50-9.5, " Rod Group Drop and Plant Trip Test," can be deleted from the Sequoyah Unit 2 test program.

You are to proceed with the revised acceptance criterion to startup SU-1.2A as proposed in

)

your letter. This change will verify the operability of the entire negative rate circuitry including the pater range detectors.

i It is noted that approval to delete this test has nothing to do with our review of the generic aspects of the " dropped rod" issue. The negative flux rate trip is still essential to the safety of the plant.

Si ncerely, Original signed by D Ct.J. Jedosoo Robert L. Tedesco, Assistant Director for Licensing Division of Licensing i
