Attached is Toledo Edison's final status report concerning the Prompt Notification System (PNS) surrounding the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station, Unit 1.
Previous status reports relative to upgrading the system were dated January 8, 15, and 22, 1982 (Serial No. 1-236, 1-240, and 1-243).
Installation of all forty-two (42) sirens was completed on January 27, 1982.
Testing of the sirens was performed January 29, 1982. The detailed results are provided in Table 1.
In summary, thirty-seven (37) of the forty-two (42) sirens functioned. Investigation on the cause of the five (5) deficiuncies is underway and corrective action will be taken.
A map identifying the final siren locations within the 10 mile surrounding area is also attached. Locations of some sirens have changed from the original map due to variances in final right-of-way approvals.
As noted in our previous letter dated January 22, 1982 (Serial No. 1-243), the PNS also includes twenty-two (22) Tone Alert Radios placed into operation early in December, 1981.
Toledo Edison will notify your office when the five (5) siren deficiencies are corrected.
