Dear Mr. Keppler:

g Attached is Toledo Edison's third st atus report concerning the Prompt Notification System (PNS) surrourding the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station Unit No. 1.

This report identifies the progress made th-ough January 22, 1982 relative to upgrading the siren system in the.J-mile surrounding area. The first and second status reports were dated January 8, 1982 (Serial No. 1-236) and January 15, 1982 (Serial No. 1-240),

respectively.

As indicated on the attached, final approval has been received for all right-of-way locations. Assembly, installation and growl testing have been completed for 29 of the 42 siren locations.

Although all siren equipment has been received, it was discovered during installation that three control boxes required to complete installation were not delivered.

It is still anticipated that installation of the sirens will be complete by February 1 unless adverse weather conditions or delayed delivery of the control boxes impact the schedule.

As noted in our previous letter dated January 15, 1982 (Serial No. 1-240),

the PNS also includes 22 Tone Alert Radios which were operational in early December 1981.

Route alerting is continuing in areas where sirens are not fully installed and operational.

The next progress report on the PNS is currently scheduled for January 29, i

1982.

Very truly yours,

$f
