Dear Sir:

Subject:

Core Spray Sparger Clamp / Vibration and Loose Parts Monitoring System In Reference (b), Vermont Yankee committe'd to implementing a surveillance program utilizing the Vibration and Loose Parts Monitoring System. This program was implemented as a result of installing a mechanical clamp on the junction box of. "C" core spray sparger.

Data was recorded quarterly for one year. A. spectral analysis of the recording was then performed to identify any major resonances. In addition, a comparison of the recordings at different time periods was also performed. As a result of the analyses, no anomalies were identi-fled and no shifts in frequency or amplitude of the vibration resonances

  • occurred.

Following this analysis, the surveillance program and the Vibration and Loose Parts Monitoring System were evaluated to determine if any changes should be made to the program, and as a result:

1) Audible channel checks will continue to be performed on a daily basis, f fDOl S I O B202090043 820204 PDR ADOCK 05000271 p PDR

2) No major maintenance or equipment replacement will be. per-formed. The Vibration and Loose Parts Monitoring System was installed as a prototype _ system and does not reflect state of the art technology. Uncertain future regulation and evolving technology does not at this time justify any major expenditures.

We trust this'information is satisfactory; however, should you have any questions, do not hesitate to call.

Sincerely, VERMONT YANKEE NUCLEAR m'0WER CORPORATION
