(A) Telephone Conversation between J. Eckhardt and B. S. Kaplan on June 5, 1981 (B) ANPP-18289, dated June 26, 1981 (Interim Report)
Dear Sir:
The NRC was notified of a potentially reportable deficiency in Reference (A),and an Interim Report was transmitted by Reference (B). At that time, it was estimated, that a Final Report would be available by February 1, 1982.
Due to the extensive investigation and evaluation required, a revised Interim Report is attached.

4 INTERIM REPORT, REVISION 1 - DER 81-15 POTENTIAL REPORNBLE DEFICIENCY ARIZONA PUBLIC SERVICE COMPANY (APS)
PVNGS UNIT 1, 2 and 3 I.
POTENTIAL PROBLEM Combustion Engineerlag (CE) auxiliary feedwater interface requirement to initiate flow within ten (10) seconds is to ensure that auxiliary feedwater reaches the steam generators before the steam generators boil dry. With off-site power
'and a single failure of the motor-driven pump, the turbine-driver may not initiate flow within ten (10) seconds.
II.
APPROACH TO AND STATUS OF PROPOSED RESOLUTION CE will reanalyze the ten (10) second initial flow requirement to establish the correct time. A quick-start test on the tur-bine, to verify supplier's verbal belief that start time can be reduced by adjustment of the turbine governor, has been approved and scheduled ~for January, 1982. CE will begin analysis in April, 1982.
III.
PROJECTED COMPLETION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION AND SUBMITTAL OF THE FINAL REPORT Evaluation of this condition and submittal of the Final Report is forecast to be completed by June 3,1982.
