1. 0 SCOPE This specification establishes the procedure to be used to clean and package ccmponents and assemblics for nuclear applications.,
2. O REFERENCE DOCUMENTS 2.1 Government and/or customer specifications 2.1.1 RDT F5-1T, dated Feb.1972, and Amendment 1, dated Apr.1972, Cleaning and Cleanliness Requirengts for Nuclear Reactor Components.

2.1.2 RDT F7-2T, dated Feb.1969, and Amendment 1, dated Oct. 1971, Preparations for Sealing, Packaging, and Marking of Components for Shipment and Storage 2.1. 3 ASME Section III, Para's. NB 4412 and NC 4412.

2. 2 Material Specifications
2. 2.1 Trichlorotrifluoroethane (TCTFE) per MIL-C-81302, Type I or II 2.2.2 Isopropal Alcohol, Technical Grade, per MIL-F-5566 of TT-1-735, Grade A and B 2.2.3 Acetone, Technical Grade, per Federal STD ACS-OA-51 2.2.4 Nitrogen. Gaseous, per MIL-P-27401
3. 0 MATERIALS This specification defines the cleaning procedures to be used for the following materials:

Inconel 600, 625, and 71G

3. 2 300 Series Stainless Steel
4. O CLEANING PROCEDURE AFTER MACHINING 4.1 Scrub the component in Technical Grade Alcohol, Acetone, or TCTFE, to remove all grease, oil, metal chips, and foreign matter.
4. 2 Blow dry with clean, oil-free, dry GN '

4. 3 Place component in clean, clear, non-halogen polethylene bags.

5. 0 CLEANING PROCEDURE FOR WELDING 5.1 Stainless steel in the sensitized condition shall not be cleaned with an aqueous solution. Cleaning shall be performed with alcohol, TCTFE, or Acetone only.

5. 2 Use air and deionized water spray to clean all dye penetrant material from the components.
5. 3 Rinse the component with deionized water, meeting the requirements of RDT F5-1T, Para. 3. 21, Grade B.
5. 4 Remove excess water from the component by shaking or blowing off with d ry GN '

5. 5 Scrub the component in Technical Orade Alechol with lint-free cloths.
5. 6 After scrubbing and/or washing, the components shall be agitated in a bath of unused Technical Grade Alcohol.
5. 7 The component shall be handled with clean, lint-free gloves.
5. 8 The component, while wet, shall be wiped with a clean, lint-free, unbleached cloth, either dry or dampened with Technical Grade Alcohol.
5. 9 The component shall be considered clean if there is no residue or discoloration on the cloth, except where it can be shown that the discoloration is not due to harmful contaminants (i. e. metal oxides, other than rust, are not considered harmful).

5.9.1 Illumination in inspection areas shall provide a glare-free light intensity of at least 100 foot-candles on the surfaces being inspected.

5. 9.2 The parts shall be inspected to the extent that no contamination of any surface is visible without magnification to a person with normal visual acuity, natural or corrected.

5.10 Blow dry with dry GN '

2 5.11 Place components in clean, clear, non-halogenated polyethylene bags.

6. 0 DRYING AND PACKAGING FOR SHIPMENT 6.1 The component shall be dried with clean, oil-free, dry GN, meeting the Z

requirements of MIL-P-27401, and immediately sealed in a clean polyethylene bag. The bag shall have been purged with dry GN '

6. 2 Excess air shall be removed from the bags prior to heat sealing.

6.3 Plastic bags used shall be made of non-halogenated plastic material.

7. 0 CERTIFICATION 7.1 Certified chemical analysis for sulfur and halogen content of all cleaning solutions used, traceable to solution batch,is required.
