Perry Nuclear Power Plant Docket Nos. 50-440; 50-441 Final Report Possible Minimum Wall Violation of Installed Pipe Spools [RDC 36(81)]

Dear Mr. Keppler:

This let ter serves as a Final Report in accordance with 10CFR50.55(e) con-cerning possible minimum wall violations of installed pipe spools due to excessive interior sandblasting. This was first repo rted to Mr. L. McGregor of your of fice on August 31, 1981, by Mr. W. Kacer of The Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company. Th is subject was also discussed on January 11, 1982, with Mr.

E. Schweihinz of your office by Messrs. E. Riley and G. Leidich of The Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company.

This report includes a description of the identified nonconformance and the methods used to complete our evaluation of significance pursuant to 10CFR50.55(e).

Method of Evaluation In accordance with our interim report dated September 30, 1981, an increased sampling of sandblasted spools has been completed. One hundred ninety-one (191) spool pieces have been ultrasonically examined in addition to the 23 p ieces initially inspected.

Results of both these exaninations were reviewed by Project Engineering and Construction Quality Engineecing and found to have no major def iciencies.
