Not Applicable Subj ect: CRACK IN ISOLATABLE PORTION OF REACTOR WATER CLEANUP SYSTEM INSIDE DRYWELL (UPDATE)

Ultrasonic testing has been completed on the Reactor Water Cleanup System, which included all piping from the reactor to the outboard isolation valve.

Ten indications have been revealed and all indications are within the drywell.

The licensee plans to replace the existing piping from the inboard isolation valve to the drywell penetration due to the extent of the indications observed.

Extent of the indications in the piping which is not isolatabic is still being reviewed to determine if repair or replacement is necessary.

The NRC senior resident inspector, assisted by a regional specialist, is reviewing the ceceptability of the licensee's actions.

The length of unit shutdown cannot be determined nt the present time.

The States of Iowa and Illinois have been notified of the original event.

The licensee is considering issuing a press release. Region III (Chicago) will respond to media inquiries.

Region III received this information by telephone from the senior resident Jr.t pector and is current as of 8:30 a.m. on January 19, 1982.
