W \\\\S The SNUPPS FSAR (Appendix 3A response to Regulatory Guide 1.79 and i
i Section 14.2.12.1.83) describes a sump test planned for the

Callaway plant. The test involves the construction of a temporary i
pool around one of the containment sumps, suction by an RHR and a i
containment spray pump from the sump, and water returned to the
)
pool through temporary piping.
It has been determined that sump model testing could be used to verify satisfactory sump performance i
.)
and such testing is planned.
Preliminary plans are to have the testing conducted by Alden Laboratories. Alden has conducted successfully sump tests for several other nuclear plants and the results have been reported to the NRC.
The SNUPPS FSAR will not be changed regarding the sump test until better definition of the model test plans and objectives are evaluated. This letter is intended to provide the NRC with an
,t early notification of this change in preoperational testing plans.
