Dear Mr. Denton:

/

SUBJECT:

GrandGulfNu'cIcar\\ ~$tation Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-416 and 50-417 File 0260/0756 Report on Equipment Survivability for a Hydrogen Generation Event AECM-82/26 The enclosed report documents the overall ef forts that Mississippi Power & Light (MP&L) has undertaken to provide reasonable assurance that before, during and after a Hydrogen Generation Event (HGE) the equipment required to maintain the reactor and reactor containment in a safe configuration will survive. This report is in support of the December 21, 1981 responses to NRC questions and to our December 21, 1981 meeting with the NRC staff on the hydrogen control issue.

This report provides sufficient justification for closing the issue of equipment survivability on the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station by extensive analysis of equipment and by comparison of predicted results to industry test results. No further analysis or testing is now planned by MP&L for the specific purpose of addressing equipment survivability issues on CGNS.

Yours truly, 4
