Dear Mr. Silkwood:

This is in response to your letter dated December 8,1981, in which you requested, pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, copies of any and all documents referring to or about your daughter, Karen Silkwood.

Enclosed is a list of documents which are subject to your request and are available for public inspection and copying in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR) located at 1717 H Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20555.

These records were made publicly available in 1975.

Also available in the PDR is a document entitled " Problems in the Accounting for Safeguarding of Special Nuclear Material" Hearings before the Subcommittee on Energy and the Environment, April 26, May 7 and May 20, 1976 which contain information on Ms. Silkwood. The charge for reproducing records located in the PDR is five cents ($0.05) per page, as specified in 10 CFR 3.14(a) of the Conmission's regulations.

Copies can be purchased by l

writing directly to the PDR. Upon agreement to pay the reproduction

}

charges, the PDR will arrange for the records to be reproduced by 1

Literature Research Company, a private reproduction contractor servicing the PDR. You will be billed directly by Literature Research Company for j

the reproduction charges plus tax and postage.

We contacted our Office of Inspection and Enforcement at Headquarters i

and the regional offices in Texas and Illinois and were informed that no a

additional documents exists on your daughter other than those on the enclosed list.

We do not have a regional office in Oklahoma.

In addition, we understand the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has made publicly available some documents concerning Ms. Silkwood.

We suggest that you contact Mr. James H. Hall, Chief, Freedom of Information-Privacy Acts Branch, J. Edgar Hoover Building, Room 6296, 10th and Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington, DC 20535 directly for access to i

the FBI records.
