[ "fGEEYass Washington, DC 20555 Oh ta Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant Docket No. 50-282 License No. DPR-42 50-306 DPR-60 Emergency Response Facilities Generic Letter 81-10 Mr R A Clark's letter of November 23, 1981 transmitted an evaluation of our earlier submittals which described our conceptual design approach for the subject facilities. The letter tabulated three items where our designs do not appear to meet the specific criteria of NUREG-0696 and seven areas which could not be fully evaluated due to information inadequancies. The letter pointed out that, should we desire additional review, the revised information is to be submitted by January 7, 1982. Although we are not requesting additional review, the purpose of this letter is to inform you concerning our response actions.

We are in the final stages of addressing each of these items and will incorporate this in format ion, including projected implementation dates, in a letter to be submitted by January 22, 1982. This information will amplify our position on how we are meeting the functional requirement.s described in NUREG-0696 (final report). We have used this document as controlling regulatory guidance because it was issued af ter prescribed NRC consideration of industry comments. We have expended considerable design and engineering ef fort using NUREG-0696 to finalize design of these facilities in spite of continued fragmented regulatory guidance, including untimely issuance of other draft NUREG reports. With our designs l

final, we are proceeding to procure equipment. As indicated in our December 1, 1981 letter, by June 1, 1982 we will furnish you an update on our progress.
