Dear ifr. Groce:
Your letter dated floveraber 4,1931 requested relief from hydrostatically pressure testing lines of 1 inch nominal pipe size or less because of your plan to install small size tubing as a part of Post TNI require-ments. Your letter requested relief because these lines cannot be isolated from larger systems.
In addition, you are presently committed to performing inservice inspections in accordance with Section XI of the AS"E Code as revised to1 the' summer of 1975, wherein subsection IWA-4000 requires modifications, replacements, additions and altera-tions to be hydrostatically tested in accordance with the provishns of IWA-5000.
As additional basis for p;ur request yourstate that more recent revisions of the AS!!E Code have exerpted lines of i inch and under from preservice hydrotesting requirements. More specifically, you requestedthe use of the hydrotesting exemption of Code Case fi-210.
We have reviewed your request and pursuant to 10 CFR Part 50.55a(g)(6)(1) we are granting relief fron hydrostatic prcssure testing of modifi-cation weld repairs to piping and components which are 1 inch nominal pipe size and smaller provided:
(a) visual, liquid penetrant and inservice leak checks are performed after the nodification weld repair.
(b) the welds were not pcrforned using a half bead welding technique in lieu of a post weld heat treatment.
