DUQUESNE LIGHT COMPANY Beaver Valley Power Station NARRATIVE

SUMMARY

OF MONTHLY OPERATING EXPERIENCE - August, 1981 August 1 Station in Operational Mode 1 at nominal full power.

through August 13 August 14 Station in Operational Mode 1 at nominal full power. At 1226 hours0.0142 days
0.341 hours
0.00203 weeks
4.66493e-4 months
through a reactor trip occurred due to a turbine trip.

The turbine electro-August 15 hydraulic control (EHC) system hydraulic fluid pressure decreased when the EHC fluid pump tripped and the scandby EH fluid pump failed to start automatically. Reactor start-up was commenced at 1450 hours0.0168 days
0.403 hours
0.0024 weeks
5.51725e-4 months
, the reactor was critical at 1510 hours0.0175 days
0.419 hours
0.0025 weeks
5.74555e-4 months
and the main unit generator was synchronized at 2007 hours0.0232 days
0.558 hours
0.00332 weeks
7.636635e-4 months
. A reactor trip occurred at 22% reactor power due to Ica-low level in the 1A Steam Generator while transferring from the bypass flow controllers to the main feedwater flow controllers.

The reactor was critical at 2217 hours0.0257 days
0.616 hours
0.00367 weeks
8.435685e-4 months
and the main unit was synchronized at 0049 hours5.671296e-4 days
0.0136 hours
8.101852e-5 weeks
1.86445e-5 months
on August 15, and power level was stabilized at full power by mid-morning.

August 16 Station in Operational Mode 1 at nominal full power.

through August 25 August 26 Station in Operational Mode 1 at nominal full power. At 2223 hours0.0257 days
0.618 hours
0.00368 weeks
8.458515e-4 months
a through reactor trip occurred due to a turbina trip. The turbine EHC system August 27 control signals were causing the turbine throttle valves to modulate.
