[ . 1.0 PURPOSE The purpose of this maintenance instruction is to provide a detailed '

procedure for functionally testing the power range channels of the

.- Nuclear Instrumentation System.

1.1 Functional testing will be performed:

1.1.1 Monthly (as specified in the Standard Technical Specifications Table 4.3-1).

' 1.1.2 After any maintenance on the system.

i 1.1.3 Any time doubt arises about the validity of the system operation.

2.0 PREREQUISITES 2.1 The approval of the shift engineer and a verbal working agreement with the reactor operator must be obtained prior to beginning the calibration.

2.2 Four of the power range channels must be OPERABLE while in Modes 1 of 2.

If not refer to STS Table 3.3-1, Action 2.

2.3 Allow one hour warm up time.

2.4 Ensure availability of test equipment required'for functional test.

3.0 PRECAUTIONS 3.1 Test may be performed on only one power range channel at a time. The remaining channels must be capable of performing the trip logic.

3.2 Ensure that only the channel of interest is under test. Check the over-temperature AT protection cabinet switches for the remaining channels to ensure they are not in test.

ed 3.3 Ensure that the requirements of IMS 19 are met for all work performed on the Power Range channels.

4.0 LIMITATIONS AND ACTIONS

, 4.1 If any value is found to be out of T.S. limits, the IM's will exchange i functions (i.e., the IM that operated the M&TE on the first check will 8

' observe actuation on the second check and vice versa). After repeating the check if the reading is still out of tolerance then the calibration of the M&TE must be verified. This may.be done by obtaining *another item of M&TE with equal or better accuracy. Both items of M&TE must be listed on the data sheet. - Upon verification of the M&TE, the test hook- .

up and procedure shall be checked and verified to be correct. Only then may the instrument be adjusted.

Every set of data need not be recorded. If there is a discrepancy in reading between the first I.M. and the second then the discrepancy must be resolved and the correct "as-found" data recorded on the data sheet.

If the discrepancy is significant (such as the instrument won't repeat) 1 notify the SIMF.

4.2 Immediately following the "as-found" check an evaluation shall be made to determine the effect of any out-of-tolerance calibration. For ob-

) -

vious cases, such as violation of a T.S. allowable limit, the shift i engineer shall be notified immediately. If the out-of-tolerance is in the conservation direction, opposite of the T.S. limit, then the shift engineer need not be notified, but the condition must be indi-e l cated on the SI data packag- cover page.

A. If the LEVEL TRIP or HIGH RATE TRIP setpoints are higher than the Tech Spec allowable value, perform the following.

1. Notify the SIMF.
2. Log the time the out of spec value was found.
3. Perform an adjustment using applicable sections of 6.0.

1 B. If the system fails to meet the desired tolerances inform the

} SIMF of the situation and perform an adjustment using applicable sections of 6.0.

5.0 PERFORMANCE OF WORK - FUNCTIONAL 'aESTING OF POWER RANGE CHANNELS NOTE: The functional test outlined in the following paragraphs is applicable for power range channels N-41, N-42, N-43, and N-44. The functional test for power range channel N-41 is described in detail. Record data taken for power range channels N-41, N-42, N-43, and N-44 on the re-

5.2.29 Place the OPERATION SELECTOR switch in the A & E position and adjust DETECTOR A TEST SIGNAL control until the PERCENT full l'

power meter indicates neutron level + 4.5%.

5.2.30 Wait for a period equal to at least five tiraes the time delay setting of the rate circuit before continuing (15 sec.). Re-turn the OPERATION SELECTOR switch to the DET B position.

5.2.31 Set RATE MODE switch to reset position for appropriate channel if any channel RATE TRIP indicators are illuminated.

5.2.32 Switch the OPERATION SELECTOR SWITCH to the DET A & B POSITION.

THE POSITIVE RATE TRIP indicators should not be lit.

5.2.33 Wait for a period equal to at 1 cast five times the time delay setting of the rate circuit before continuing (15 sec.).

/+ 6.1 BISTABLE RELAY DRIVERS NC302,~304, 305, 306, 307, and NC 308 ADJUSTMENTS This paragraph describes. the adjustment of bistable relay defves

')  ? NC302, 304, 305, 306', 307, and,NC308 The adjustment procedure for relay driver NC302 is described in detail. The other relay drivers are ad-justed in accordance with data sheets in the same manner as histable relay driver NC302. The adjustment procedure is as follows:

6.1.1 Rotate OPERATION SELECTOR switch 3303 to the DET A&B position.
