20555 Attention:

Ms. E. G. Adensam, Chief Licensing Branch No. 4 Re: McGuire Nuclear Station Docket Nos. 50-369, 50-370

Dear Mr. Denton:

Attached herewith is Revision 1 to Duke Power Company's report "An Analysis of Hydrogen Cat. trol Measures at McGuire Nuclear Station". The purpose of this revision is to provide final responses to NRC requests for information dated July 21, 1981 and September 24, 1981. This revision also includes an additional final research project report, "Effect of Water Fog Inerting of Hydrogen-Air Mixtures", and several minor corrections and updates to the overall document.

Installation of the final hydrogen mitigation system as described in the attached report is complete. Based on the analysis and test'ng performed, it is our con-clusion that this system will perform its intended function with adequate margin.

While there are still several research project reports which are not complete, virtually all of the testing associated with the projects has been completed (the exception being the Whiteshell Laboratories sphere-tube detonation te.ating).

Final or interim reports are expected to be submitted in January, 1982 for the remainder of the research effort. The result of this research is not expected to alter our conclusions'about the effectiveness of the installed hydrogen mitigation system.
