RE: Perry Nuclear Power Plant Docket Nos.

50-440; 50-441 Significant Deficiency Suppression Pool Stainless Steel Cladding Sensitization (ROC 19(80)

Dear Mr. Keppler:

Our last letter on this subject dated May 29, 1981, states that our final report is scheduled to be submitted to your office by December 15, 1981. In that letter we clso advised that an independent investigation on the effects of the stainless steel sensitization on the possible corrosion during plant service life had to be com-pleted prior to preparation of our final report. Due to the extent of this investi-gation which includes fracture analysis to determine the affects of loading on the structure, and corrosion aspects such as intergranular stress corrosion and creviced corrosion, it has become necessary to request an extension of the date for submitting our final report to your office.

This was discussed with Mr. L. McGregor of your office on December 14, 1981, and he indicated that this would be acceptable. We now anticipate that all studies will be completed and our final report will be submitted by March 15, 1982.

Very truly yours, o h1 Dalw' R. Davidson, Vice President System Engineering and Construction cc: USNRC - Site Director Office of Inspection and Enforcement U. S.
