Dear !!r. Gary:

Subject:
Comanche Peak Tray Fire Barrier Evaluation yf s \\y
/g On October 29, 1981, we received a copy of the test report, " Fire Qualification Test of a Protective Envelope System", October 27, 1981, Southwest Research Inc.(SWRI). A letter from Mr. H. C. Schmidt dated November 18, 1981, requested i
that we review this report and evaluate this material for acceptability for use in the Comanche Peak plant to meet requirements for fire barrier material.
A description of the rei art and our review follows.
To satisfy the cable tray fire protection requirements in Section III.G.2.c of Appendix R to 10 CFR Part 50, the applicant has proposed to utilize the TSI fire barrier system. The fire test for this material / system has been documented in a " Fire Qualification Test of a Protective Envelope System",
dated October 27, 1981. The TSI material successfully protected the cables for a time period of one hour.
We have evaluated the fire test report and conclude that it demonstrates that the TSI material / system exhibits equivalent or better characteristics of other i
approved materials, and therefore can provide an acceptable fire barrier for cable trays and cables. Based on our evaluation, we conclude that the use of the TSI material / system will meet the requirements of Appendix R to 10 CFR Part 50 and is therefore acceptable.
i Sincerely, t
