AFFIDAVIT OF CONNIE V. WARE AS DIRECTED BY BOARD ORDER OF DECEMBER 8,1981 CONNIE V. WARE, being first duly sworn, on oath states as follows:

My name is Connie V. Ware and I am a member of the Rockford League of Women Voters.

I attended the September 26, 1979 meeting and one earlier meeting 7
with Mr. Cherry.nd Mrs. Betty Johnson when we approached Mr. Cherry to i
consider his representation of the Rockford League.
At no time in my i
presence, whether at the September 26, 1979 meeting or otherwise (or to my knowledge), has Mr. Cherry ever stated or indicated that he was interested in or would represent the League in connection with the Byron matter for delay's sake.

On the contrary, Mr. Cherry has repeatedly stressed the need for thorough and sound scientific support for any issue the League might raise and the need for prompt action since the Byron Plant was being constructed.

At the September 26, 1979 meeting I do recall Mr. Cherry stating his position that the true cost of nuclear safety would dramatically increase the cost of nuclear power but that he was concerned that the NRC might be hostile to any effort by the League to obtain a full hearing on these issues as an inte-venor in a licensing hearing.
