a CONTROL OF HEAVY LOADS-
Dear Mr. Eisenhut:
In your letter dated December 22, 1980 and in Generic Letter 81-07 on the above subject, you requested that we review our controls of the handling of heavy loads to determine the extent to which the guidelines of NUREG-0612 are presently being satisfied at our facility and to identify the changes and modifications that would be required in order to fully satisfy these guidelines. Since the present Vogtle construction schedule calls for fuel load for Unit 1 to begin September 1,1986, we are not in a position to fully address.the guidelines of the above NUREG. However, the evaluation is underway and is scheduled to be completed during the third quarter of 1982.
In July 1981 NUREG-0800 was formerly issued which contained a new Section 9.1.5 (0verhead Heavy Load Handling Systems). Since we are prepar-ing the Vogtle FSAR to this revision of NUREG-0800, we plan to fully address these concerns in Section 9.1.5 of the FSAR. The present schedule calls for submitting the FSAR on September 1,1983. We will also keep under considera-tion -the guidelines of NUREG-0612 during the final design and construction of the plant.
Should the NRC need more information than requested in NUREG-0800 Section 9.1.5, or not agree with this approach, please advise.
