Fire Protection Program Modifications

/j n N._ /

Dear Mr. Stolz:

Florida Power Corporation submitted, in our December 6, 1979 letter to Mr. R. W. Reid, a description of the proposed Fire Protection Program for Crystal River Unit 3.

Your Safety Evaluation of this program was provid-ed via your letter dated January 23, 1981.

By this letter, we hereby advise you of a change to the proposed detector locations addressed in the December 6,1979 letter.

The change relocates the fire detection in the Waste Druming Area from a high radiation area to a lower radiation area.

The new location will still provide fire detection for the Waste Druming Area; however, it will greatly reduce the radiation exposure to the personnel involved in the installation and future maintenance of these detectors.

Drawing SK-790907, submitted with the December 6,1979 letter, showed the proposed two detector locations in Zone 25, Waste Druming Area.

Pres-ently, the radiation level of the detector locations is about 500 to 700 mrem /hr.

The revision is to delete one detector from Zone 25 and [/ (

relocate the other detector in the middle of the Waste Druming Area to the hall / entryway.

The radiation level of this location 11, 2.5 mrem /hr to 15 mrem /hr.

I There are no safety related cables or equipment in Zona 25. The proposed

/ [

detectors were to protect company equipment. There are no solid doors in the Waste Druming Area.

The proposed ionization fire detector to be installed in the hall / entryway would detect a fire starting in the Waste Druming Area.
