Gentlemen:
My previous letter of November 6,1981 gives the status of Fire Protection Requirements. Information in that letter requires the following clarifications:
1.
Status of SER Item 3.1.19, Fire Detection, did not address the fact that fire detection for the Main Steam Isolation Valve (MSIV) Rooms would ne be completed until the next regularly scheduled outage foi each unit, as previously shown in reference (b). Personnel access to these rooms is limited because of heat during operation; consequently, the modification must be completed when the plant is cooled down for several weeks.
2.
Although excluded from pre-Appendix R requirements, the battery rooms require the installation of fire detection to meet 10 CFR 50 Appendix R.
This requirement was overlooked and detection was not implemented during the additional installations done to comply with Appendix R.
However, detection in the battery rooms is currently underway and is expected to be complete within the next several weeks.
