Southern California Edison 10 CFR 50.55(e) Report dated October 23, 1981. Docket Nos. 50-361 and 50-362, San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, Units 2 & 3

Dear Mr. Seyfrit:
On October 23, 1981, Southern California Edison, San Onofre Units 2 and 3, informed Mr. Engelken, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region V, of the subject deficiency.
Subsequent evaluation by the Bechtel Review Committee concludes that the condition is also reportable under 10 CFR Part 21. The Southern California Edison report contains all the information required by Part 21 with the exception of the information required by 21.21(b)(3) VI as it is unknown to Bechtel.
Nuclear Measurements Corporation will be advised by letter that the component as applied by Bechtel contains a substantial safety hazard defect and will be requested to review its responsibility for compliance to Part 21, Section 21.21(b)(3) VI.
Other Bechtel Divisions were advised of the defect by appropriate records and correspondence.
