Mr. Robert A. Clark, Chief Docket Nos.: 50-338 Operating Reactors Branch No. 3 50-339 Division of Licensing License Nos.: NPF-4 U. S. Nuclear Regula::ory Commission NPF-7 Washington, D. C.

20555 Gentlemen:

This letter is to inform you that the Virginia Electric and Power Company is presently finalizing plans to increase the spent fuel pool storage capacity at North Anna Power Station Unit Nos. I and 2 from the present 972 storage locations to approximately 1600 storage locations. This will be accomplished by replacing the currently installed High Density Spent Fuel Racks with " Poison" Spent Fuel Racks having a smaller center to center spacing between storage locations and utilizing a neutton poison material.

We expect to submit a request to modify the North Anna Unit Nos. I and 2 operating License and accompanying technical information describing the new spent fuel racks in March 1982.

If you require further information on this matter, we would be pleased to meet with your staff at their convenience.

Very truly yo rs, hj/
