l o 4-SYSTEMATIC EVALUATION PROGRAM TOPICS XV-8 AND XV-12 HADDAM NECK REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION TOPICS XV-8, CONTROL R0D MISOPERATION XV-12, SPECTRUM 0F CONTROL ROD EJECTION ACCIDENTS 1. According to your submittal, the last analysis. of these topics was done for the FDSA in 1965: Would you please supply a comparison of the results obtained with the methods used with resultsobtained with either currently approved methods or present day state-of-the-art methods? If this is not possible, we will require calculations with ( present state-of-the-art or approved methods. 2. The Standard Review Plan Section 15.4.8, Spectrum of Rod Ejection Accidents (PWR), states three acceptance criteria. Your stated results meet Criteria A and B. You state that you meet Criteria.C because the fuel enthalpy is less than 200 cal /gm and thus there is no fuel clad damage and no fuel rods in DNB. The staff does not accept the 200 cal /gm as a. limit for. clad damage. Thus you need to supply the percentage or number of rods calculated to experience I departure from nucleate boiling. This number will then be used in. l the radiological evaluation. 6 9 e-- ~ < +
