REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION - GE0 LOGIC In the perfonnance of the Perry licensing review, the U. S. Geological Survey has identified concerns in regard to the geologic aspects of the cooling water tunnels. The informction that they require is identified in the enclosure.

USGS is evaluating only this aspect for Perry.

Add.tional geoscience requests are anticipated from the staff during their review of the FSAR.

We request that you provide the information not later than September 15, 1981.

If you require any clarification of this request, please contact M. D. Houston, ProjectManager,(301)492-8593.

o REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL GEOLOGIC INFORMATION PERRY NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS, UNITS 1 & 2 THE CLEVELAND ELECTRIC ILLUMINATING. COMPANY DOCKET N05. 50-440 & 50-441 231.3,

Demonstrate with appropriate diagrams and text, the estimated kind, magnitude, areal extent, duration, and timing of the glacial-related phenomena (loading, rebound, etc.) that affected the area, which includes the Perry Nuclear Power Plant site. Show whether or not those phenomena could generate movement along the tunnel faults or cause other geologic structures in the tunnels, plant excavations, and the regional area.

231.4 Demonstrate whether those glacially-related phenomena identified in the response to NRC item 231.3 have ceased and whether the tunnel faults are likely to move under present conditions of local and regional stress orientation and rock strengths.

For a guide, see Dr. Barry Voight's discussion in the FSAR (App. F of App. 20, p. F-52 to 58).
