This letter refers to the announced inspection conducted by Ms. Leanne M. Kay of this office
on April 12 through April 15, 1993, at Calvert Cliffs, Units 1 and 2, in Lusby, Maryland, to

evaluate your actions regarding the new diesel generator installaticas. The diesel generators
play a vital role in protecting the tulth and safety of the public by providing electric power
to safety-related components during postelated accident conditions. Ms. Kay discussed her
i
findings with Mr. Donald Graf on April i*.1993, and with other members of your staff on
April 15,1993, at the conclusion of the inspection.
Areas examined during this inspection are described in the NRC Region I Inspection Report
which is enclosed with this letter. The inspection included a review of the Diesel Generator
Project organizational structure and responsibilities and verification of the adequacy of
engineering involvement with the installation and testing of the proposed plant modifications.

Within the scope of this inspection, no safety concerns were observed. No reply to this
letter is required. Your cooperation with us during this inspection is appreciated.
