Subject:

Docket No. 50-402: Clarification of Information Provided in Revision 1 of the Detailed Control Room Design Review Summary Report Gentlemen:

Recent operating experience has identified the need for demarcation on control room Control Panel RLO13.

However, during a review of licensing and regulatory requirements associated to this change, it was ascertained that information

.[

provided in an early licensing response could be misleading.

This letter l

provides clarification to that response documented in revision 1 of the Detailed Centrol Room Design Review (DCRDR) Summary Report for Wolf Creek Generating

{

Station (referenced).

The report discussed the use of control panel demarcation in Section 6.0, Labels and Location Aids, Finding 47.

In response to this item, I

a table was provided which listed panels, associated demarcation plans, and relevant remarks.

Sketches of proposed use of demarcation were also provided.

l I

The response to item 47 can be divided into three basic categories; no need for demarcation, demarcation provided on sketches or no demarcation due to use of mimics.

This clarification addresses the last category.

In the table, Panels RL013, RLO14, RLO15, RL0l6, RL017, RL018 and RLOl9 were listed together.

The remarks section for these seven panels states, "These panels contain extensive mimics.

Use of demarcation lines is not needed to improve clarity, and would interfere with mimics. "

However, some of the panels included on this list do not actually contain mimics and appear to have been included due to panel and j

label configuration.

Therefore, on panels which do not include mimics, this remark should be clarified to allow the use of demarcation based on operating experience. This use of demarcation is consistent with the guidelines described in NUREG-0737 and Nf3 REG-0700.

If you have any questions concerning this matter, please contact me at (316) 364-8831 extension 4002 or Mr. Kevin J. Moles at extension 4565.

l Very truly yours, wj 1 Forrest T.
