McGuire Nuclear Station Docket Nos. 50-369 and 50-370 Annual Environmental Operating Report The McGuire Nuclear Station Environmental Protection Plan (EPP), Appendix B to the McGuire Technical Specifications, requires an Annual Environmental Operating Report. This report for calendar year 1992 is contained in items 1 through 4, as indicated below:
Item 1 - Summaries and analyses of results of activities required by Section 4.2 of the EPP.
Item 2 - List of EPP non-comp!iances and corrective actions.
Item 3 - List of changes in station design or operation, tests, and experiments made in accordance with Subsection 3.1 which involved a potentially significant unreviewed environmental issue.

Item 1 EPP Section 5.4.1 Summaries and analyses of results of activities recuired by Section 4.2 of the EPP.
No observed non-radiological impacts on the environment during the reporting period were noted.
No evidence of trends of irreversible damage to the environment is apparent. A Summary Report of the 1992 Lake Norman Maintenance,* v nitoring program required by McGuire Nuclear Station NPDES Permit No. NC0024392 is being prepared and will be submitted to the North Carolina Department of Environment, Health, and Natural Resources and to the NRC.
Item 2 EPP Section 5.4.1(a)
EPP non-compliance and corrective actions.
1.
A copy of nonroutine event reports, describing exceedance of an NPDES permit limit, noncompliance of Landfarm/ Landfill Groundwater monitoring parameters, and oil contamination of soil surrounding a waste oil storage tank that were submitted to the state agency, was not forwarded to the NRC at the same time.
Corrective Action Individuals responsible for submittal of NPDES reports and Landfarm/ Landfill Groundwater results were notified of the EPP requirements. A copy of nonroutine event reports submitted to the state agency in 1992 is attached.

Non-routine reports submitted in accordance with Section 5.4.2 of the EPP.
1.
A quarterly report of Landfarm Groundwater Monitoring results, permit No. WO#0001860, describing nonroutine events (total and fecal coliform density exceeded >1 colony /100ml in Monitoring Well #5), was submitted to the North Carolina Division of Environmental Management, Groundwater Section on August 11,1992.
2.
A report of a spill of approximately 3 pounds of ethylene glycolwhich leaked from a tractor tire into a yard drain at the McGuire Garage was submitted to the North Carolina Emergency Response Commission and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management Office on September 30,1992. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission, as well as appropriate federal, state, and local environmental agencies were notified when the spill occurred on September 22,1992.

A follow-up report, describing nonroutine events (fecal coliform density exceeded 2400 colonies /100ml at McGuire Nuclear Station outfall 003 of NPDES Permit No.
i NC0024392), was submitted to the North Carolina Division of Environmental Management, Water Quality Section on September 29,1992.
A quarterly report of Landfarm Groundwater Monitoring results, permit No. WO#0001860, 4.
describing nonroutine events (total coliform density exceeded >300 colonies /100ml in Monitoring Well #5), was submitted to the North Carolina Division of Environmental Management, Groundwater Section on November 19,1992.

A Groundwater Monitoring Report was submitted to the North Carolina Division of Solid Waste Management, September 17,1992, describing exceedances of the State's minimum reportable values for volatile organic compounds (VOC) on the groundwater monitoring well samples taken from the McGuire Solid Waste Landfill, Permit # 60-04.
6.
A non-routine report was submitted to the North Carolina Department of Environment, Health, and Natural Resources concerning misdirected inputs to the Waste Oil Storage Tank which resulted in oil contaminated soil.
