BACKGROUND N

The Duke Power Company (DPC) topical' report DPC-NE-3001 describes j

the DPC methodology using the RETRAN code for thermal-hydraulic j

transient analysis.

This methodology is-'for licensing j

applications of the Oconee, McGuire and Catawba Nuclear __ Stations..

]

By a letter _ dated November 15, 1991 from NRC to DPC,1the staff has approved the use of the DPC proposed methodology for McGuire l

and Catawba.

However, the staff review of the applicability of DPC-NE-3001 for Oconee Nuclear. Station has not been completed.

OBJECTIVE The objective of this technical assistance program'is'to obtain

expert review and determination of the acceptability of the report DPC-NE-3001' applicable to Oconee.
