p March 25,1993 Docket Nos. 50-348 50-364 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ATIN: Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555 Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant EDSFI Unresolved Item 348. 364/92-17-08 Gentlemen:

Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) letter dated November 5, 1992 provided responses to Unresolved Items and Inspector Followup Items (IFI) associated with the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant (FNP) EDSFI.

Included with the SNC letter was a response to Unresolved Item 348, 364/92-17-08, "Some Safety-Related Equipment Could Experience Temperatures Above Those Stated in the FSAR." The SNC response provides a planned course of action and indicates that all required actions will be accomplished by completion of the next refueling outage for each unit (Unit 1/ Spring 1994 and Unit 2/ Fall 1993).

In addition, the SNC response included interim milestone dates for completion of specific actions related to Unresolved Item 92-17-08.

Specifically, SNC stated that overload relay adjustment knobs will be verified to be set in the optimum position for operation at the postulated higher temperatures or reset by March 31, 1993. An evaluation of the actions required to observe and reset the overload relay adjustment knob settings indicates that a personnel safety hazard exists due to potential for electric shock if performed at power. Accordingly, SNC has rescheduled the completion date for this specific action to the upcoming refueling outage for each unit.

This schedular adjustment has no impact on the overall completion date for the response to Unresolved Item 92-17-08 (i.e., Unit 1/ Spring 1994 and Unit 2/ Fall 1993). Justification for leaving the relay settings at their present positions until the next refueling outages is provided in our Hovember 5, 1992 submittal.

If there are any questions, please advise.

Respectfully submitted.
