March 17, 1993 Docket Nos. 50-317 and 50-318 Mr. Robert. E. Denton Vice President - Nuclear Energy Baltimore Gas & Electric Company Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant 1650 Calvert Cliffs Parkway Lusby, Maryland 20657-4702
Dear Mr. Denton:
SUBJECT:
NRC BULLETIN 90-01, SUPPLEMENT 1, " LOSS OF FILL OIL IN TRANSMITTERS MANUFACTURED BY ROSEMOUNT" - CALVERT CLIFFS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT, UNIT NOS. 1 AND 2 (TAC NOS. M85369 AND M85370)
By letter dated March 4,1993, Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BG&E) responded to NRC Bulletin 90-01, Supplement 1.
The response also referenced the previous responses to the initial bulletin, which were letters dated July 17, 1990, December 20, 1990, and April 29, 1992.
The response to Supplement 1 of the bulletin indicates that all Rosemount pre:sure and differential' pressure transmitters Model 1153 Series B, Model 1153 Series D, and Model 1154 manufactured prior to July 11, 1989, and which perform safety-related or anticipated transients without scram (ATWS) functions will be rep 1 aced.
Bulletin transmitters whose only safety function is that of a pressure boundry have been excluded. The replacement will involve 24 Unit I transmitters, 23 Unit 2 transmitters, and 2_ transmitters which are common to both units.
BG&E has chosen to replace the Bulletin transmitters, rather than the option provided in the supplement, which is to implement' an enhanced surveillance monitoring program.
It is further indicated that all Unit'1.Rosemount-transmitters and all Rosemount transmitters common' to both units were replaced -
as of August 31, 1992, with transmitters manufactured after July 11, 1989.
The remaining 23 Unit 2 Rosemount transmitters are in the process of_being replaced during the current Unit 2 refueling outage number 9:(RF0-9).
