Dear Mr. DelGeorge:

'
The enclosed report refers to an. engineering and1 technical
support:(E&TS)-team inspection conducted by Mrs. Sonia.D. Burgess'
and others of this office on January litthrbugh February-..ll,.
j
1993.
The inspection' evaluated activitle' slat the LaSalletCountyl
!
.
Station authorized by NRC Operating License.Nos. NPF-111and'NPF--
l
18.-
We discussed our inspection findings;with Mr. W. Murphy and.
.
members of your staff at'the exit interview.on, February--11, 1993..
-j
-
.i
The purpose of this inspection wasito assess thi quality and'
- l
effectiveness of engineering involvement ~in plant activities,
j
The~ inspection consisted of a selective' review of modifications
installed during your recent unit outages, relevant procedures,
j:
representative records, installed equipmenti and interviews with
j
engineering and technical support staff.
1
i
Overall, the team concluded that the extant and quality of-
i
engineering and technical support at the site was good. .
.
,
!
Modifications--reviewed contained adequate design control-and;well
i
documented safety evaluations.
Effective communications between
i
i]
engineering and other organizations'resulted in the~
identification and resolution of plant problems.
A weakness was
noted; however, in the documentation of engineering evaluations
-l
and post-modification testing of temporary system changes.
Recent organizational 1 changes made'iniengineering^will' provide
challenges; however, the movementlof-corporate engineering to the
LaSalle site will place the management of station: engineering-
onsite and closerLto the staff conducting.the activities.' The
~
organization changes were viewed as a positive initiative.
No violations of NRC requirements were identified duringithe
course of this inspection.
