Dear Dr. Boulette:
SUBJECT: INSPECTION REPORT NO. 50-293/93-02
This letter refers to the inspection conducted by Mr. J. E. Carrasco of this office on
January Il-15,1993, at the Braintree office and the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station, in
Plymouth, Massachusetts. The inspector discussed the results of the inspection with '
Mr. W. C. Rothert and other members of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.
This inspection focused on activities important to the public health and safety and was
'
directed towards engineering acdvities with emphasis on the adequacy of the design,
installation, and modification of safety related dynamic pipe restraints (DPRs) and static
'
(rigid) pipe supports, including snubber surveillance program. This inspection was also
conducted to determine the status and the adequacy of activities related to the replacement of
i
the Salt Service Water piping.
Details on the areas examined during the inspection are described in the NRC Region I
inspection report, which is enclosed with this letter. Within these areas, the inspection
,
consisted of selected examinations of procedures and representative records, interviews with
personnel, and observation by the inspector.
Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were observed. However, an unresolved
item was observed regarding the accuracy of the inservice inspection (ISI) isometric drawings -
that govern the ISI and inservice testing (IST) programs. This configuration control
deficiency was discussed with your staff during the inspection and they have initiated
corrective actions.
